Focuses on assisting clients participate to the fullest extent in their everyday life activities, with a large focus on play, daily routines, and social engagement. Underlying areas of treatment include difficulties with bilateral coordination, decreased muscle tone and strength, sensory processing concerns, coordination difficulties, attention difficulties, self regulation, visual skills (visual motor, visual spatial, etc), and motor planning/executive function.

Emphasis is on improving a child’s performance in a variety of communication areas including understanding language, expressing themselves, developing effective communication for socializing, articulating words, using mature oral motor skills, and improving myofunctional skills for sleeping and eating, and feeding. Underlying areas of treatment include expressive and receptive language skills, articulation and oral motor skills, sensory and motor based feeding challenges, auditory processing concerns, and self regulation needs. Our therapists also work closely on underlying components of speech including respiration, phonation, and intonation as well as underlying components of language including phonology, syntax, and pragmatics.
Early Intervention Services (EI)
Our therapists work within the Illinois Early Intervention System to provide services to children age birth through three who have developmental differences in the home and community settings. POP therapists are evaluator credentialed and can provide evaluations and ongoing treatment through the Early Intervention system.
Feeding Therapy, Consultations & Evaluations
Our therapists work together to form a team of feeding experts. Occupational Therapists focuses on proper positioning for safe and efficient feeding as well as sensory based feeding strategies and interventions. Speech and language therapists assess and treat myofunctional concerns, oral motor concerns, and chewing/swallowing issues. Our dietician can consult or work directly in groups or with families to help create healthier meal times while our social workers can help support mealtime stress for families and children.
Therapeutic Social Groups
Our therapists offer a wide variety of specialty groups, both structured and unstructured, to provide comprehensive services for children and their families. Structured groups including handwriting groups and social regulation groups based on “how does your engine run” and “Michelle Garcia Winner’s social thinking curriculum”. The focus of all groups is to help children develop and integrate social skills in a fun and natural way. The groups help facilitate self-regulation, ideation, collaboration, problem solving, and flexibility in thinking. Through our unstructured groups children learn the enjoyment and management of social interactions with their peers needed to be successful in less structured arenas such as the playground and during playdates.
Mental Health Services
Therapists support the emotional wellbeing of children and their families in a caring and sensitive manner. A wide variety of areas are addressed including family dynamics, behavior concerns, and functional emotional/social development. Our staff specializes in the social emotional needs of the child including self regulation, trauma, and the mastery of significant developmental hurdles (feeding, toilet training, and limit testing).
Individual, family, and group consultations are available emphasizing positive mealtime interactions, promotion of good food choices and health, and the support of food allergies and special dietary needs. Education and guidance in food choices are also available.

Many of our therapists are certified in Infant Massage. Techniques can be incorporated into sessions or done as a separate consultation. Infant massage is a powerful tool to help stimulate brain development, build sensory awareness, decrease stress, and promote attachment. Research confirms the importance of a secure environment and nurturing touch for the development of children. Infant massage is one of the most natural and pleasant methods of providing early nurturing contact between a parent and child. This technique incorporates a number of important elements to strengthen the parent-child bond, including skin-to-skin contact, cuddling, facial expressions, eye-to-eye contact, soothing sounds and smell.
We can provide intensive therapy services for a period of time for clients who live outside of our area or for clients that are looking for a boost during a holiday break or summer break from school. A variety of programs including the floor time approach, auditory interventions, parent coaching, etc are available during intensives.
